Moscow Diamond Bourse organizes first Indo-Russian Diamond Summit in Surat, India, April 3-5, 2012

Date:
1 April 2012

The Moscow Diamond Bourse (MDB) and India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) are organizing a first-of-its-kind networking meeting between Indian diamond manufacturers and Russian buyers. The April 3-5 meeting will take place in Surat, India's leading diamond manufacturing center, and follows the highly successful Indo-Russian Jewellery Summit held in Mumbai in June 2011.

Representatives of 15 of India's - and the world's - largest diamond firms will hold meetings, with their Russian guests, offering them a wide assortment of polished diamonds of all cuts, sizes and clarities.

"This is the first opportunity for Russian companies to establish direct business relations with diamond manufacturers in Surat, which is the very heart of India's diamond industry," said MDB President Alex Popov. "During the past few years, we have been making considerable efforts to establish a working relationship between the council and our bourse and I am very encouraged by this pilot project. In our delegation of around 30 members, we will have jewellers joining us from all over the Russian Federation," he added.

The program includes business meetings, diamond viewings, visits to polishing plants and a roundtable discussion including GJEPC Chairman Rajiv Jain and the MDB's Popov. At the conclusion of the summit, the Russian delegation members will travel to visit Jaipur, India's leading coloured gemstones manufacturing and trading hub. The visit aims to give them a deeper understanding of the city's gemstone industry, as well as visiting the historic Pink City, and to enjoy a number of other historical sites in the Jaipur area.
